Are you interested in a nice plush lawn for your landscape. Quiett Scapes should be the only sod supplier you should need to call. Sod is the best way to achieve a beautiful full landscape. Sod is typically used in residential and commercial applications for instant gratification. Sod takes less time to establish before returning back to normal use of a landscape versus using a seed application. There are many different types of sod depending on application and landscape needs. Shade and sunlight are a big factor on which type of grass is going to work best, each property is different. Grasses we recommend for Georgia in shaded areas would be Fescue, Rye, and Zoysia turf. The two most popular grass for extreme sun areas are Bermuda and Zoysia.
Types of Sod
Certified bermuda grass, has a dark green color and has good resistance to drought and disease. It will go dormant during the cool months. Bermuda prefers full sun. Less than 4 hours of full, direct sunlight each day Bermuda grass photosynthesizes less. This reduces the amount of energy available to the plant and retards growth, in turn reducing tolerances. There are two different types of Bermuda grasses. Tiffway419 is a great choice for most applications and used widely throughout Georgia. Tiffgrand is a premium quality grass that grows denser and is more shade resistant than its predecessor Tiffway 419. Bermuda grass is tolerant of long periods of heat and drought, making it a good choice for climates that are very hot in summertime.
It is true that zoysia is more shade tolerant than Bermuda grass, but it needs at least four hours of direct sunshine or eight hours of very bright reflected light to thrive. This being said Zoysia is a great grass for full sun, partial shade and shaded areas. There are several type of zoysia depending on blade width and colored desired. Meyer Zoysia, a creeping, slow growing rich green colordense turf that limitsweed encroachment. Zeon Zoysia is a fine textured grass that has a beautiful dark green color making it a true bare foot lawn grass. It can handle full sun and has excellent shade tolerance. Only requires as little as 3 hours of direct sunlight. Empire demonstrates superior dark green color, wide bladed and open growth habit. Thrives in hot, humid conditions and has moderate to good shade tolerance characteristics.
Tall Fescue grass is a cool-season grass that grows strongly in the fall and spring. Fescue will be green year around and will go through a mild dormancy and growth will slow down during the summer months.Tall fescue has a dark color with a long wide blade texture. Fescue thrives in shaded areas and can burn in full sun during the summer months. Tall Fescue sod is ideal for fine residential lawns, large corporate and commercial landscapes, medians and roadsides, and parks. Tall Fescue sod is perfect for turfgrass needs throughout the upper South.

Do you have a new construction or residential property in need of sod? Quiett Scapes has a team of professional sod installers that can handle any size project. Installing sod could require many pieces of equipment and hours of hard manual labor to achieve the beautiful lawn you desire. In preparation for installing the sod this is a great time to do any mild grading that your landscape might need. We will clear the site of all rocks, stones or other debris that is larger than 2-3 inches in diameter. Tilling the existing soil to a minimum depth of at least 2 inches before adding any topsoil or soil amendment to ensure adequate soil nutrients and looseness. We will then apply a starter fertilizer to help promote root growth for the new sod. We will then lay the sod pulling each piece tied together for a seamless finish. We use a weighted sod roller to roll the lawn and ensure there is no air pockets between sod and soil. At this time we will install a temporary irrigation system if you do not have an irrigation on the property for proper watering. Monitoring the timers for the first 3 to 4 weeks is crucial to ensure growing conditions.
